"Small Town Big Miracle"

If you missed today's "Mornings" program, you missed a real blessing. A tiny town in Texas, Posssum Trot, population about 300, has accomplished something truly monumental. Bishop W.C. Martin, of the Bennett Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, will immediately give the credit to God. But I'm sure He'd happily share it with the Bishop. The Bishop, his wife, Donna, and the church congregation, adopted 72 children...rescued them...from foster homes in Dallas, Houston, Beaumont, and Wichita Falls. These children define brokenness...putting precious faces to evil words like abuse, neglect, abandonment. The Bishop and his wife adopted four themselves including a little boy named Tyler...a child afraid of the sound of running water because he came to know hot water as a punishment tool before the Martins rescued him from a life no child should have to live. Others learned to eat meals very fast...worried they might not get another. And some misbehaved in school just to get sent home where they had finally found love and acceptance. Though these kids came with so much hurt and anger in their lives...feelings that admittedly created emotional, spiritual and financial hardships on the loving families who adopted them...not a single child wound up back in foster care. And the church wants to adopt more! If ever anyone breathed life into Matthew 18:10, these people did. "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven." Bishop Martin has lovingly told this inspiring story in a book: "Small Town Big Miracle". Want to bless your life today? Read it.

I am sorry I missed this segment. My husband and I are trying to adopt and we like to hear more stories about adoption. In our church, we have one other family that is trying to adopt and two families that have already adopted. Thank you for talking about this subject.

For anyone wanting information on Bishop Martin's ministry, there is a web site that is being built at this time. Some of the info is up and it is a work in progress. But if you want to see what we have so far got to:
